Bitcoin Day 5

For those not following, this is a crazy experiment explained in this post.

So the day started off with the price around $520 for 1 BTC, heading back up. Still holding reasonably stable.

So this was saturday if I'm correct. I got some petrol vouchers paid for (to be delivered to Wellington from Auckland while I'm jetsetting in Sydney!). That cost me $150 in bitcoin, off a random off IRC, so ... hopefully it arrives!

To be frank, I spent most of the day lazing about, and packing for my trip. I should note a few things though. I paid for rent in NZD (covers power/gas/my backup internet). Now I could have stayed at the City End Holiday House which apparently takes bitcoin according to coinmap.org. I also accidentally paid for my Google Play subscription, while not essential, is handy to have music on the go!

Saturday breakfast I had breakfast at my partners, so that kinda is cheating, but also kinda not. Lunch didn't happen (lazing too much). I did some washing, but that can be replaced once I find a dairy. For dinner I had it at my partners work, which happens to be an airport hotel, where we stayed the night to get our 6am flight out. She asked me not to ask them about bitcoin :P

So all up, I ended up just paying NZD for a few services, but I've lined up a few places I should go in Sydney.

  • Joostice
  • Black Star Pastry
  • The Old Fitzroy (actually there is a meetup there tomorrow night)
  • The SG (not sure if they actually accept, but there is a meetup there on wednesday night)
  • Maybe more? Sydney, let me know!

I still haven't got an AU phone top up, but I'll prob just pay for it in AUD, as I need it to use bitcoin on the fly... (plus foreign country and all needing emergency contact etc).

If you can offer assitance, just do it! I'm on twitter as haquaman, on reddit as haquaman, on IRC as aquaman (no h), and email at hugh AT davenport DOT net DOT nz.
